When the Human Resource Department of Rosewood San Miguel de Allende called to request a meeting with us, we were puzzled. Several days later, Ricardo Galván, Marcela Naranjo, and Edgar Licea came to the SPA. After we gave them a tour of the shelter we were surprised and delighted when they offered to help with a project of our choice, agreeing to provide both supplies and, more importantly, their employees who would be volunteering their time supplying the labor. What a generous gift!
Where to begin choosing one of our much-needed projects from our wish list? Since we are funded entirely by donations, our budget is tight and all money goes to fill the basic needs of running the clinic and maintaining a secure, healthy shelter environment for our 100 resident dogs and cats. As we assessed our options, we realized that the adult cat area iron grate walls were last painted many years ago and were faded and rusty. Even though we had known they needed work, there were always higher priority items that demanded attention. So now we had the perfect project.
Rosewood followed through, sending a team of more than a dozen volunteers who scraped, sanded, and painted their way through the Cat House, with hard work, paint-splattered clothes, remarkable humor and two days straight labor. The result: lovely aquamarine walls that make the area so much more inviting than before. The volunteers, staff, and adopters all seem happier in this beautified environment. We’d love to say how thankful the cats are for this wonderful transformation, but they are an unappreciative group, so we will leave it to the two-legged folks at the SPA to say, “Thank you, Rosewood!”
Come and see our beautiful “new” cattery for yourself. We’d love to show it to you Monday-Saturday, 11-2, at Los Pinos 7, 152 6124. While you are there, you can meet some of our resident animals ⎯ maybe volunteer and spend some quality time with them. Who knows? One (or more) may capture your heart. The fee to adopt is 400 pesos and includes sterilization, vaccinations, and deworming. Check our website (www.spasanmiguel.org) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/spasanmiguel) for more information.
