The Better Halves

The Better Halves, featuring Chrissie and Jimmy Joe Natoli, visit San Miguel for a concert at the Shelter Theater on January 9 at 7pm. The band is an Austin-based husband-wife duo that specializes in making listeners smile. With roots in country, bluegrass, folk, jazz, and classical music, their funny, touching duets use clever lyrics and real boy-girl banter to uplift and entertain audiences who respond with laughter and knowing nods. Their rousing instrumentals, including a piece played with four hands on one guitar, always bring down a shower of applause! Jimmy Joe and Chrissie have appeared on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Car Talk,” and Kerrville Newfolk. Their debut CD, Tête à Tête, earned them a nomination for Best Duo by the Texas Music Awards. They love pleasing the ears and touching the hearts of audiences of all ages with their upbeat, fun, and inspiring music.

Jimmy Joe attended the Berklee College of Music and the Guitar Institute of Technology. He began playing guitar at age 12, with a life-sized poster of Jimi Hendrix on his ceiling for waking inspiration to practice.  His songwriting has received recognition from the Kerrville Newfolk Contest (Regional Ballad Tree Selected Performer 2006) and the Songwriters Serenade (Finalist 2011 and 2012). The band’s second CD, All Over the Map, digs a little deeper, with more poignant pieces and story songs while maintaining an air of humor and fun characteristic of the duo.
