Two Special Walking Tours, Architectural and Christmas Day
By Betse Davies
This month Patronato Pro Niños brings you two very special tours to delight, entertain, and inform tourists, guests and residents of San Miguel alike. We will continue to offer our regular downtown historical walking tours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Your guide is a volunteer for Patronato Pro Niños, the organization that provides free medical and dental care to the needy children of San Miguel and 450 villages, which surround the city. This year we were proud to add another dental van to the two already operating. Now we will be able to visit the villages every 2 1/2 years instead of the previous 5-year interval.

200 pesos on the 18, 150 pesos on the 25
The theme of the first special tour on Thursday, December 18 is architecture. Doug Lord will lead the group through the different styles of architecture in the downtown area commenting on the origin and features of each of the distinctive styles. This tour lasts about 2 1/2 hours and is mostly level walking. The group assembles in the Jardín across the street from the Parroquia at 9:45am. Your 200-peso donation will go to Patronato Pro Niños.
We urge you to start your Christmas Day with our second special tour, the festive Christmas Day tour, which meets in the Jardín across the street from the Parroquia as well. You may see a large group assembled there at 9:45am but there will be enough guides so that the groups will be small in number. The tour starts at 10am ending up at Hank’s New Orleans Restaurant on Hidalgo at noon for beignets and coffee compliments of the owner, Bob Thieman. The perfect ending! The guides will also offer information on customs observed by Mexicans during the Christmas season in addition to historical information about buildings and other places of interest
This tour has become a tradition in San Miguel. Participants in the last 12 years have found it to be an appealing way to spend a few hours with friends or family members.
Whether you have been naughty or nice, we invite you to join the Christmas Day Walking Tour. We ask for a donation of 150 pesos and 100 pesos for children over six.
