Sultry Norah Jones in Filmed Concert
By David Johanssen
In 2002 Norah Jones first unveiled her rich and seductive voice, performing above an Indian restaurant in downtown Austin, TX. Five years later, Jones returned to Austin City Limits as one of the most successful and respected recording artists of the decade. On Friday, December 5, at 7:30pm, Shelter Theater shares that epic performance from 2007 with Jones’ smoky jazz and Memphis soul permeating her original songs. The concert includes previously unreleased performances making for an extra special musical experience. 75 pesos.

A gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion put up a false straight front to please his son´s homophobic future in-laws. On Wednesday, December 10, at 5pm, the homage continues with Carnal Knowledge, a satirical sex comedy featuring Jack Nicholson and folk-rocker Art Garfunkel, chronicling changing sexual attitudes over thirty years. 50 pesos.
Tuesday, December 9, at 5pm, Shelter presents a lecture, discussion, and celebration of life by Christina Sol on “ayahuasca,” commonly called “yagé.” A psychedelic medicinal tea made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine, ayahuasca is thought to have spiritual healing powers. 40 pesos.
Join us every Tuesday at 7:30pm for the Open Mic. It’s always a great show with a different line-up of amateurs and professionals week by week. 30 pesos (includes beverage).
