Singing from the Heart will be singer/songwriter Lauren Osornio’s gift to the community, as she wrote all of the songs and many of the lyrics. “Beautiful and interesting words inspire me to compose music to create songs,” said Osornio. Those whose lyrics inspired her to write songs include poet Octavio Paz, Mayahuel lead singer Luis Maciel, poet Rick Roberts, and essayist Eric Flores. Former opera singer Kate Rowland, Mexitanos’ gypsy jazz guitarist Almitri Tzigane, cellist Jorge González, San Miguel Singers’ choral director/pianist Liz Stone, and tenor Jorge Tamez will play and sing with her. All of the songs will be translated in English and Spanish.

Osornio studied with a professional singer and teacher near Boston before coming to San Miguel where she is continuing her voice lessons with Rowland. Jorge Tamez studied piano and singing in the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey. He specialized in sacred music and Gregorian chanting at Seminario Arquidiocesano de Monterrey, where he was the director of the Coro del Instituto de Filosofía. Tamez now is a solo tenor who participates with the Coro de la Ópera de San Miguel. His current teacher is Joseph McClain. Don’t miss it, Sunday, December 7, 5pm, Hotel la Aldea, Ancha de San Antonio 15.
