International Volunteer Day

By Sandra Ríos

On December 5, the world celebrates International Volunteer Day, declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 to express appreciation for the contributions of the volunteers to the organizations working for peace and development. During this year the contribution of volunteers was emphasized for involving people from the beginning in the process of projects and decisions, thus creating a space for participation that leads to social cohesion, peace, and sustainable development.

In San Miguel there are 82 NGOs registered that work with volunteers. La Biblioteca is among those organizations recognizing the commitment of all the volunteers who have contributed to the growth and development of the institution, providing services freely and selflessly contributing their time, knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm for the good of the San Miguel community. They are making the world a better and more caring place and working together to achieve common goals.
