A Relaxing Day
By Sandra Ríos
To start your day and pamper your palate, we suggest having breakfast at Antigua Villa Santa Mónica, an outdoor restaurant where you can hear the birds sing and enjoy the beautiful fountain and lush plants while eating. We recommend Huevos Villa Santa Mónica, baked in a clay pot and bathed in green sauce. To accompany this dish, try the green juice, consisting of orange juice, celery, and nopal. And to finish with a sweet taste in your mouth, try the cinnamon rolls that the restaurant bakes fresh, accompanied by rich coffee from Veracruz. Fray José Guadalupe Mojica 22, 152 0451.
During these chilly days, a chance to spend some time in a warm and healthy spot is definitely agreeable. Among the several hot springs near San Miguel, we suggest you visit “La Gruta.” Here you’ll find three outdoor pools and a tunnel that takes you to a vaulted room (the “grotto”) with thermal water jets that give a relaxing back massage. La Gruta also has a restaurant and a large green area for resting on lounge chairs. You can order something to drink or eat while you take it easy. Carretera San Miguel-Dolores Hidalgo, Km 10, 185 2162.
On your return from the hot springs, along the road you will encounter the famous restaurant “La Burger.” We recommend eating here and ordering a delicious burger with beef rib eye or New York. These cuts are excellent and come with grilled vegetables. Enjoy your meal with a good wine or artisanal beer. Fraccionamiento El Cortijo, San Miguel-Dolores Hidalgo road, 7.3 Km, 185 2247.
In the evening if you want to enjoy a good dinner and listen to extraordinary live music, the perfect place is Hecho en Mexico. They have a varied Mexican menu and a great atmosphere. We recommend that you ask for their famous enchiladas verdes with chicken or the typical chicken flautas with cream, cheese, and salsa. Accompany your meal with a delicious jamaica water or a beer.
