By Sandra Ríos

On November 20 the La Casona Convention Center opened its doors with an inauguration ceremony with Mayor Mauricio Trejo; Ernesto Gómez Hernández and José Benigno Torres Trujillo, investors in La Casona; Senator Miguel Ángel Chico; Francisco José Vega, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Tourism; Carla Ruiz Massieu and Gloria Cano, representing the State Secretary of Tourism; and Fernando Olivera in attendance. With the new convention center, authorities and entrepreneurs expect to attract tourism throughout the year. Before its official inauguration, the Convention Center has  already held events such as the National Assembly of the National Association of Hoteliers, the Cultural Tourism Fair, and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade meeting. The center has a total of 2,800 square meters and five rooms for events.

Along with this project, a new hotel is being built beside La Casona. Its premises will have 76 executive rooms with prices below the rates of other hotels in the city. Private investment for La Casona was about 50 million pesos, and 40 million more is expected for the new hotel.
