In 2013 San Miguel was appointed as the World’s Best City by Condé Nast Traveler magazine; this year it is the Best Tourist Destination in Mexico, chosen by the readers of Food and Travel Magazine.

In September, Food and Travel Magazine nominated San Miguel de Allende to compete against cities like Playa del Carmen, Oaxaca, Ensenada, Los Cabos, and Mexico City, among others, in the category of Mexico’s Best Destination. More than 15 thousand readers and the general public voted on line and, after two months, elected our city to receive acknowledgment as the best.

The award was handed over by Raúl Saylors, publisher of the magazine, to Mayor Mauricio Trejo. Trejo commented that this prize is not a result of casualty but causality. It is, he said, a reflection of the work the local government and travel service providers are doing together. The mayor also remarked that San Miguel offers not just joy, culture, and entertainment but a life experience.

Fernando Olivera Rocha, Secretary of Touristic Development, also attended the event and said that this recognition will allow the government to promote not just San Miguel de Allende, but also Guanajuato in the world. He expressed that the award is received at the best touristic moment for the state and will attract more international and national tourists to Guanajuato. He remarked, “San Miguel de Allende is already a world class destination.”
