Celebrate La Biblioteca’s 60th Anniversary!
By Sandra Ríos
La Biblioteca continues celebrating its 60th anniversary with different events in thanks to the community for all the support throughout the years. Here some of the highlights of the celebration to come:
Saturday, November 15, 6pm, Sala Manuel Figueroa at Teatro Santa Ana
Cinco Días sin Nora/Nora’s Will begins when José finds out that Nora, the woman he’d been married to for 30 years and then divorced, has committed suicide. The rabbi explains to José that due to the celebration of the Passover festivities, together with a few other factors, if Nora is not buried that same day, they will have to wait almost five days to be able to carry out the burial. It turns out that before she died, Nora devised a Machiavellian plan in order for him to take care of her funeral. But she missed something; a mysterious photograph left under the bed will lead to an unexpected outcome, which will remind us that sometimes the greatest love stories are hidden in the smallest places.
Wednesday, November 19, 6pm, Sala Quetzal
Soprano Lupita Leal will offer a recital with songs by composers María Greever and José Alfredo Jiménez at Sala Quetzal in appreciation of La Biblioteca’s programs for children (like the course her son attended last summer). Lupita is native of Comonfort, Gto. She studied music in Morelia, Michoacán, and was part of the vocal octet from the Universidad Michoacana for twelve years. After that, she began a solo career doing concerts in Mexico and abroad.
Friday, November 21, 5-9pm
The Biblioteca invites the community to celebrate its anniversary with a fiesta! There will be lots of surprises, a raffle, delicious food (for sale) from Los Faroles Restaurant, as well the presentation of the Siempre Swing band. Don’t miss it! All events are at Insurgentes 25.
