Architectural Tour for Holiday Guests
By Betse Davies
On Thursday November 20, Doug Lord will lead the monthly Architectural Walking Tour, which will delight and enlighten guests for the US Thanksgiving Day. Doug will meet participants in this special tour in the Jardín across the street from the Parroquía. There are precious few cities in the Western Hemisphere that can lay claim to having 400-year-old buildings still standing in the downtown area. Legal restrictions on new construction were put in place in 1926, almost 90 years ago. Not only are the buildings old, but also they vary in style. You can see four different styles and the transitions from one style to another on this tour.

200 peso donation
The tour lasts about two-and-a-half hours of mostly level walking. All of the 200-peso donations for this tour go to Patronato Pro Niños, the organization which provides free medical and dental care to the needy children of San Miguel and the some 400 villages and ranchos which surround the city. A new addition to Patronato’s program is a dental van, which shortens the time between visits to outlying villages. Your donations helped make this happen.
