The Ancient Ones, Miguel Caréra’s new series

By Robert Lindberg

The most recent production from the conceptual artist Miguel Caréra, “The Ancient Ones,” proposes a profound topic according to the dates of celebrating the Day of the Dead. He establishes a point of reflection that invites the audience to reflect on all the death scenes on a massive scale that have marked the history of humanity and thus defined the generations that brought us to this modernity. The artist revives the memories of those events that for political or religious reasons have caused the scars with which we live today. Miguel Caréra mentioned that this series recreates the Mexican tradition of celebrating the dead and inviting them to revisit this world they left long ago. Through this exhibition, the artist intends to invite everyone to remember all those who have suffered for reasons that were beyond their control, causing them to become victims of circumstance.

The artist’s work varies between performance, music, video-art, painting, and sculpture. Most of his pieces are in public and private collections in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. His artistic production focuses on the development of scientific and historical topics of interest in order to propose and promote actions to improve the situations that the artist expresses in each of his works.

This exhibition has been produced at the Plein Air Painting sessions, (performance that invites passersby to intervene freely with the artwork). The collection can be appreciated from Thursday, October 30, to Monday, November 3, at the Casa de Europa (San Francisco 23) as part of the events of the festival of La Calaca 2014.

We invite you to be part of this historic event.
