A Feast of Design, Art, Fashion and Good Living
By Jade Arroyo
The Bazaar of Art and Alternative Design will take place in its sixth edition on November 1 and 2, bringing the best of young independent designers to San Miguel one more time. In tune with the festivities of Day of the Dead, it is celebrating its first anniversary and also is part of La Calaca Festival program.
Bazaar of Art and Alternative Design
Sat & Sun, Nov 1 and 2, 10am-6pm
Ancha de San Antonio 28
Anniversary cocktail Sun, Nov 2, 5pm
Since its foundation in 2013, the bazaar’s aim was to be a platform to empower and promote the talent of young independent designers, as well as to create awareness in the public about the importance of supporting the young entrepreneurs and artisans by buying their products. We propose an alternative shopping experience, where you approach the humane side of design, knowing the artist who made your dress, that handmade notebook, the cool Acapulco chair, lamp, embroidery, jewelry, soap… Can you think of a better place to find a present for someone special? We like to think also that this is a way of pacific rebellion to mass production; to embrace high quality and limited editions, promoting ethical commerce.
The sixth edition comes with over 60 different national brands showing a large range of styles and formats: clothing, furniture, accessories, jewelry, toys, handbags, embroideries, lamps, beauty care, vegan cosmetics, gourmet popcorn, fruit and mescal frappés, Mexican antojitos, live music and much more.
This project represents one year of labor and wants to celebrate and share this achievement with the community: on Sunday, November 2, we’re having a cocktail with live music to celebrate our first birthday and the opening of the Day of the Dead altar, located at the entrance of the bazaar.
We would like to say ‘thank you’ to Mojigangas San Miguel for the two pretty papier maché ladies guarding our entrance and also to graphic design company Myrna Camacho Co. for creating our amazing image (see Que Pasa cover).
