100 Women Who Care Meets October 20
By Susan Page
If you are a woman who cares about raising the quality of life for poor families, providing clean drinking water in rural communities, giving scholarships to deserving high school girls who might otherwise have to drop out, upgrading services for elderly persons with no family, cleaning up the Rio Laja and the presa, and in general sharing your resources with those in need in our San Miguel community—and all without the time-consuming effort we all associate with fundraising—then we invite you to attend the next meeting of 100 Women Who Care, on Monday, October 20, at the Rosewood Hotel.

We meet four times a year for one hour each time. At each meeting, several nonprofit organizations are nominated. Three are drawn out of a hat. We hear a short presentation on each of the three, and then we vote. Each woman (or team of women) has pledged to donate 1,000 pesos to the winning organization. When we achieve our goal of 100 women, we will raise 100,000 pesos for one of San Miguel’s hard-working nonprofits, offering this to a different nonprofit four times each year.
To join this heartwarming group of women, all you have to do is show up at a meeting, sign a pledge agreement, and then attend every meeting if you are in town. If you cannot attend a meeting, you must leave your donation before the meeting at any La Conexion location, addressed to Susan Page, Box 549.
You may join as an individual, pledging 1,000 pesos four times a year. Or, you may form a team of friends (up to four total) who together pledge this amount. One team member must be responsible for assembling the team’s 1,000-pesos donation for each meeting. There is one vote per 1,000-pesos donation, so each team must first agree and then cast only one vote.
Last Quarter’s “Winner”
At our July 2014 meeting, the winning nonprofit was ALMA. ALMA provides all manner of support for elderly San Miguel residents who are without family or other resources. At our October 20 meeting, we will hear from an ALMA staff member exactly how our donation was used.
We invite all women who care to attend the meeting on Monday, October 20, at the Rosewood Hotel. We are grateful to the Rosewood for their admirable community spirit in donating the space for our meeting. You are invited to arrive at 3:30pm for no-host cocktails and a chance to mix and mingle. Joining (for new members) and signing in with your donation begins at 4:30pm. The meeting will begin promptly at 5pm and will end by 6pm.
If you are a member of a team, please designate one Team Leader who will be responsible for assembling and presenting your team’s donation. If you have signed a pledge and you cannot be at the meeting, you must drop off your donation in a sealed envelope before the meeting at any La Conexion location, addressed to Susan Page, Box 549. We cannot be responsible for getting your donation to the winning organization after the meeting.
100 Women Who Care has chapters in several US cities. Jody Feagan founded the San Miguel Chapter by assembling a Steering Committee of Kathy Devine, Alice Garcia, Marty Kimmel, and Susan Page.
