Theater Performance to Benefit the Local Red Cross
By Leticia Fernández
In its constant search for resources to operate emergency services in our city, the Red Cross presents the play Luces de San Miguel (San Miguel Lights). Portraying the most representative historical characters in the history of San Miguel, it begins with the arrival and wedding of the great benefactors of San Miguel, don Manuel de la Canal and doña María de Hervas; a fragment of the life of Sister Josefa Lina de la Canal, founder of the Las Monjas Convent; the arrival of Fray Jose Guadalupe Mojica in town and his life and work; Villa Santa Monica and its guests, Dolores del Rio, Maria Felix, Walt Disney, Rodolfo Valentino, Maria Callas, Mario Talavera, Cantinflas, Esparza Oteo, Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, and Pedro Vargas, among others; El Patio and its host Jorge Redondo; the Fábrica La Aurora with its traditional festivity La Alborada; the weekly newspaper Atención San Miguel; and everything that has given social and cultural luster to our beloved San Miguel de Allende. We will have a rich narrative mixed with four provincial remembrance poems by the gifted poet, Margarito Ledesma.
The Red Cross is focusing its activities on a social and cultural content. The actors and directors in the play offered their services voluntarily, donating their work and time to benefit the Red Cross. Luces de San Miguel will be held at Teatro Ángela Peralta on Thursday, October 9 at 7pm.
