Cervantino 2014 Comes to the Biblioteca Pública

By Sandra Ríos

This year the Festival Internacional Cervantino has considered bringing the most important festival shows to different places in the Mexican Republic, under the program “Más Allá de Guanajuato” (Beyond Guanajuato). There will be projections of the event highlights on screens of various formats in order to approach a new audience for free. In San Miguel de Allende, La Biblioteca was chosen as the only venue in the city to house these events, which will be held from October 8 to November 7 at Teatro Santa Ana. Entrance is free.

Opening, Wednesday, October 8, at 8pm.

The Japanese group Tokyo Dageki Dan will open with percussionmusic. This group, founded in 1995 by Jin-ichi Hiranuma, will provide the strength of the Japanese drums of different dimensions with instruments like shime daiko, okedoh daiko, nagadoh taiko, and other Japanese percussion to the audience .

Saturday, October 11, at 5pm.

Music: Rudolf Buchbinder, considered one of the greatest pianists today, will perform music of Ludwig van Beethoven, with the Sonata No. 1 in G minor, op fa. 1.2; Sonata No.10 in G major, Op. 14/2; Sonata No. 13 in E flat major, op. 27/1 “Quasi fantasy”/Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31.2 “Tempest”/Sonata No. 18 in E flat major, Op. 3.31 “The Hunt.”

In the sonatas that Buchbinder will perform, we find the most intimate and most personal music of Beethoven, receptive to the inherited tradition of Haydn and Mozart as energetic inventor of a “future music” in the so-called “late period.”

Wednesday, October 15, at 12pm.

Theater: A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

La Máquina del Teatro

Director: Juliana Faesler

Incidental Music of Felix Mendelssohn, Chamber Orchestra of Fine Arts, Coro Del Teatro de Bellas Artes.

This is a delicious comedy of tangles. With the sharp intelligence she has of theater resources and the whole creative complicity of performers, Faesler invents a mechanism of surprising images that symbolize the eminence of the English author, since they suggest that everyone involved in the scene, including to the musicians of Chamber Orchestra of Bellas Artes directed by Jose Luis Castillo, can be part of a twist of fate.
