Sunday, September 28, at 5pm, Shelter shows a digital theater presentation of Amnesty International’s Freedom of Expression Award winner, The Container by Clare Bayley. Enclosed in a freight container somewhere in Europe, five people huddle together with a common aim. How far will each of them go to get what they want? You can read a paper to know human-trafficking is a reality. The Container puts faces and voices alongside those stories of hope and sacrifice. This gripping story of illegal immigration was famously performed entirely inside a shipping container in the Young Vic in London. 50 pesos.
Tuesday, September 30, at 5pm, Shelter continues its three-part documentary of Guns, Germs and Steel, concerning Jared Diamond’s theory on why there is such disparity between those who have advanced technology and those who still live primitively. In this third part, Diamond considers the effects of the developed world’s many conquests of less-developed nations throughout history. 40 pesos.
Wednesday, October 1, at 7pm , Shelter’s Art on Film series continues with The Agony and the Ecstasy, the biographical story of Michelangelo’s troubles while painting the Sistine Chapel at the urging of Pope Julius II. Charlton Heston plays Michelangelo in the highly acclaimed 1966 film that was nominated for five Oscars. 50 pesos.
Friday, October 3, at 8pm, the Shelter Theater continues its concert series with “Sting, Live in Berlin,” accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Recorded in 2010, this major concert was directed and produced by the Emmy-award winning team, Jim Gable and Ann Kim. Don’t miss this chance to see Sting in concert, performing many of the hits he and The Police have had over the decades. 50 pesos.
Join us every Tuesday at 7pm for the Open Mic. It is always a great show with a different line-up of amateurs and professionals week by week. We want you to bring your act to the Open Mic, so come and get your 10 minutes of fame in front of a live audience. Come out and support our local talent. 30 pesos (includes drink).
