Gossip Is the New Black at Playreaders
By Michael Gottlieb
Ssshh! Have you heard? JG (Other Desert Cities, The Other Place, et al) and MJG (Opus, Red, et al) rock the house at Playreaders this week as Mr. & Mrs. Fitch, a wicked little comedy by the riotous Douglas Carter Beane is presented.
Mr. & Mrs. Fitch
By Douglas Carter Beane
Wed and Thu, Oct 1 and 2, 7:30pm
St. Paul’s Church
Newspaper gossip columnists Mr. and Mrs. Fitch are elegant and hilarious arbiters of who is in and who is out. Once they were the buzz of the Big Apple, now they scurry for soundbites from has-beens. The rise of the never-ending news cycle and America’s insatiable thirst for celebrity gossip has left the once on-top-of-the-world Fitches running for cover. Their editor wants more and more from less and less. Blogs and Tweets steal their thunder. Their relevance hangs by a whisper. What will they do to survive? What won’t they do?
The New York Times called playwright Beane “American theater’s best living exponent of the exploding epigram.” The dialog is fast, furious, wickedly funny, and deliciously delivered by the shatteringly amazing, dishing duo of JG and MJG. Please join us for a divinely deep dive into the shallow waters of endless gossip with Mr. & Mrs. Fitch.
Directed by MG (yes that MG). Lights and sound by Dr. Simandl. Costumes and makeup by The Bigge. Understudy—Miss H. Performances start at 7:30pm or earlier if the house is full. Doors open at 7pm, no advance tickets. Donation: 20 pesos.
