The Art of Fashion…San Miguel Style!
By Mary Norquist
If you can’t make it to Fashion Week in New York, London or Paris, don’t worry! Mujeres en Cambio is bringing a fashion extravaganza to San Miguel on September 18. Three top local designers are presenting their latest designs in a runway show along with five other designers presenting their accessories. We’ll be serving appetizers and wine and, after the runway show, desserts! Your ticket includes food and one glass of wine, however, there will be a no-host bar from which all the proceeds benefit Mujeres en Cambio.

Alessandro Alviani from Cerroblanco Gallery in Fábrica Aurora, Bonnie Griffith of Bonnie Griffith Designs, and Angela Nasta from Sindashi will be showing their collections of original designs. The runway show is going to be more than just models walking up and back. There are some special surprises as well. These three designers will donate to Mujeres en Cambio a portion of their sales from this event.
The models for this show are all volunteers who either head up or are involved with other local nonprofits. To name a few….Maya Williams, executive director of the Literary Sala; Kathy Devine, president of Mujeres en Cambio; Elsbeth Friedli, president of CASA; Susan Neulist, director of Libros Sin Fronteras, and April Gaydos, president of the Audubon Society. Other models include: Ivy del Pozzo, Barbara Poole, Leslie Little, Cristina Gámez, Lisa Braval, Beth Rosener, Maelie Jayet, Rory Kyle, and Cher Rowland.
Providing hair and make-up services is Maricarmen and her team of professionals.
We are thrilled that Barbara Poole, owner of Casa de la Noche, has offered us the use of her new event center, the Red Lantern Garden. It’s a warm and inviting space, and we’ll be using both the interior and the outdoor sala, which features a large fireplace. It’s in this area that our designers—both runway and accessory—will be set up to show and sell their creations. You don’t want to miss seeing this array of outstanding fashion along with this new, beautiful space. So come prepared to mingle with, old and new friends, enjoy appetizers and wine, and shop, shop, shop!
Mujeres en Cambio is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to underserved young women in and around the San Miguel area.
