Mary Jane Miller Receives Special International Recognition
By Laurence Bradshaw
Mary Jane Miller, a San Miguel artist, has received a special recognition award in the 16th Annual Faces Juried Online International Art Exhibition hosted by Upstream People Gallery.
This international exhibition received approximately 210 art entries from around the world and 42 artists were selected by the juror Laurence Bradshaw, professor of art at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.
Professor Bradshaw says about this specially recognized work, “Mary Jane Miller expresses ‘Cosmic Father’ in an icon technique, depicting the Father God in a loving manner.”
Further information about this specially recognized artwork: The icon was inspired by portraits of St. Simeon, who is often portrayed as an old man expecting to see the Christ Child before his death. The old man here bows down from a deep blue cosmic background to embrace a child who extends his arms in tenderness. “I believe love is the one thing which will change the world, along with beauty. The Christ Child with open arms is in the position of sacrifice and surrender. Surrender to love, be embraced by creation,” said Mary Jane Miller.
The exhibition will be featured online during September at www.upstreampeoplegallery.com and continue indefinitely in the archives section of the website. Additional information may be downloaded from the virus-free link below:
