Half-Day Sit Meditation

By Frank Simmons

The Meditation Center will hold a half-day sit. There will be four periods of sitting meditation of 40 minutes each, some walking meditation, and at about 11:45am a dharma talk by Nomon Tim Burnett, who will be offering teachings around the powerful and ancient idea of “emptiness” as expressed in the Heart Sutra of Mahayana Buddhism. These teachings support us in seeing the limitations of our thinking and language. This way of looking at our experience helps us in opening to a broader and more flexible perspective.

Nomon Tim Burnett is the Spiritual Director of Red Cedar Zen Community in Bellingham, Washington (www.redcedarzen.org) and a close disciple of Zoketsu Norman  Fischer (www.everydayzen.org). Norman has been teaching in Mexico for over 20 years at Mar de Jade in Chacala, Nayarit. (www.mardejade.com) and Tim joins him regularly there as an assistant teacher. Tim also teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and delights in finding ways to connect the teachings of Buddhism with our busy modern lives.

After the talk there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion followed by snacks (please bring what you would like) and drinks.

Presentations of the Center are offered without charge. Donations are gratefully accepted.
