My favorite cats
By Joan DiPiero
My very favorite cats are the kittens. Who can resist their playful antics, expending every ounce of energy, then collapsing into a purring kitten pile, sleeping the sleep of the innocent? Ulysses, with his intense good looks, never fails to find just the perfect shoulder for napping. Ariana, our very tiny kitten, not expected to survive, is now thriving and has gotten so used to our extra attention, she immediately settles right onto our laps.
On the other hand, I believe my very favorite cats might be the teenagers. With personalities firmly in place, they are who they appear to be. Some are loving snugglers, some prefer laps, some prefer petting next to laps, and some just want to play, play, play. Smirnoff is Mr. Exuberant, tirelessly leaping and playing, then snuggling on our laps. Princessa talks to us constantly, in case we should fail to notice her, not possible with her lovely calico coat and lap- sitting skills.
Actually, the more I think about it, I’m convinced my very favorite cats are the adults. What is more graceful than a reclining cat, a picture of elegance and tranquility watching the world go by? Occasionally honoring us with their presence, allowing us the honor of petting them, they know with certainty how special they are. Miranda, a mainly white calico, loves to play with wand toys and enjoys napping in the closet and vigorous head rubs. Fancy, our token beauty queen, personifies elegance with her expressive manner and gorgeous long coat.
My favorite list does seem to be rather indecisive. Working with all the SPA cats, I know my inevitable choice. My very, very, favorite cats are each and every one of them.
Our website www.spasanmiguel.org has photos of our cats and kittens and will give you some background about each one. Why not come by the SPA, Los Pinos 7, 152-6124, Monday-Saturday, between 11am and 2pm and see if you can choose your favorite feline?
