More art comes to Parque Juárez
By Antonio De Jesús Aguado
San Miguel Inspires is the name of a group of bimonthly cultural events in the city. Among those events is Caminarte which will donate art works to the Parque Juárez.
Sat, Jul 12 and Sat, Aug 9
Caminarte is an “outdoor gallery” with a creative environment that includes activities for children, such as literary and painting workshops. The concept is similar to that of Montmartre in Paris.
The event is an idea of Daniela Alcázar that emerged with her desire to provide to local, regional, national and international artists a place to show and sell their creative work so that the attendees can be part of the creative process. The event includes gourmet food and coffee.
María José Garrido, director of Tourism, Economic Development and International Affairs, told Atención that the event is held all year long on the second Saturday of each month at Parque Juárez. It will have more promotion from the local administration in July and August. “A corridor of art is set up like those in cities similar to San Miguel,” said Garrido, where the artists are painting or sculpting, exhibiting their work and selling it.
According to Garrido, this event is also a strategy for attracting more tourism to the area and generating more economic development. She said that lately she has been in Parque Juárez for this kind of event and says, “They are a very sanmiguelense experience.” Garrido remarked that the artists take care of the park, and they will donate some pieces that will be placed in the area.
