Visiting IREE, the school for deaf children
By Cecilia Escobar
Wednesday of last week, the students at IREE received a special visit from the students of The Naciones Unidas School (one of the best schools in San Miguel).
The eventfully day provided important experiences both for the deaf students as well as for the visiting students.
The students from Naciones Unidas were given audiometric tests, learn about sound frequencies, and were able to learn some words in sign language to the delight of the deaf children.
These interactive visits are very beneficial to the deaf children as they bolster their self-esteem, and further their ties with the community. In this case it was also an eye opener for the visiting students from a regular school who found at IREE intelligent young people with abilities and interests a lot like their own.
IREE has 22 years of experience in caring for the needs and education of deaf children. Exposing them to a variety of experiences such as this has been a priority as these strengthen their intellectual and emotional development.
IREE is located at Refugio Sur 11 at colonia San Antonio, phone 152-0913, Iree2sordos@gmail.com. Everybody is welcome to visit us.
