Ken Bichel: Transformations
Thu, Jul 10, 7pm
Auditorio Miguel Malo
Bellas Artes
Hernández Macías 75
250 pesos

Bichel is calling his concert “Transformations,” a theme that pervades all the works on the program. Since he is a classically trained pianist who made his mark in pop, rock, and jazz, it is impossible to classify Bichel’s style of playing. But, as he points out, “transformation is endemic to jazz – you take an extant piece of music, and you twist it.” He is likely to open with a virtuoso fantasy on the Mexican bolero “Besame Mucho,” which is itself a transformation of a classical work for piano solo by Enrique Granados. He will also be playing a Chopin prelude and transforming it into – well, that’s a surprise.
