Our July pets of the month sparkle!
By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero
When Leon arrived last year with his litter mates, he was such a cutie we were sure he’d be adopted quickly. Within a few weeks, his siblings found homes, but poor little Leon was not chosen. Although he is as friendly as his litter mates, potential adopters noticed he had an eye issue, nothing serious, just a blocked tear duct that causes a little staining under one eye, but they turned away from this little guy, despite him being an absolute sweetheart, charming and affectionate. Now one year old, he has a white coat with splotches of tabby gray and expressive eyes begging you to take him home.
Seven-month-old Athena belonged to a family whose children loved her, but, sadly, she was thrown out of the house when the family got a puppy. The children cried and Athena tried very hard to get back inside. After being turned away again and again, she decided to try her luck with other houses on the block, luckily showing up at one of our volunteer’s home. She is tranquil and loving, a true lap cat. With a fuzzy cream coat and blue eyes, she’s a beauty and deserves so much more after such a disappointing start to life.
Katie, a seven-month-old tiny terrier mix, loves to give kisses! She is really small and likely to remain so. Katie gets along with all our other pups, even those much larger than she, and she is not afraid of anything. She is funny, feisty, and bouncy, with a lovely temperament and is small enough to be taken in-cabin on a plane, if you want a dog you can travel with.
Carmela, a five and a half-month-old mixed-breed with a lovely golden coat, was found abandoned, a tiny ball of fluffy fur. She is gentle, sweet, with a huge heart and is the “greeter” when meeting new dogs. When new puppies start barking at her, she kisses them until they realize they can’t provoke her; then they all start playing together. Carmela will probably be medium-sized when she’s an adult, and she will be a loving companion to just about anyone.
