Departure and re-entry permit issued by the Mexican Immigration department

By the National Institute of Immigration

A departure and re-entry permit is the document issued by Immigration authorities to foreigners or expats who must leave and return to Mexican national territory while they have a pending process with the immigration authorities.

Conditions to apply for a departure and re-entry permit:

This permit is applicable to foreign persons who are leaving and returning to Mexican territory in the following cases:

-While in possession of a Multiple Migratory Form (FMM), visitor or resident card

-When the pending proceedings have been filed in the terms and conditions provided in the regulation and in the current guidelines.

Departure and re-entry permission does not apply to foreigners with irregular immigration status or who have impediments to departure in terms of the law. The permit should be requested at the office where the pending immigration process was initiated. The immigration authorities, prior to verification of compliance with requirements and lists of immigration control, will issue a resolution. At the moment of re-entry, the immigration authorities at the Immigration office will check that the re-entry matches the stay period that was issued when soliciting the permission. (For this reason is very important to always keep the permission for departure and re-entry as well to have documents stamped when leaving and returning the country).
