In San Miguel we have had the privilege for four months of having the only gallery in Mexico with a great collection of Polish posters created between 1945 and 1989 by some of the best-known artists of that time. The collector Martin Rosenberg has acquired this collection over 35 years. The themes vary from cinema, theater, opera, dance and music to the circus, politics and even sports. The painters from that time were funded by the communist regime with the purpose of producing posters to earn a living, because there were no galleries. The artists would compete with each other to see who made the most beautiful and original posters; that is why Poland is one of the most important countries that has contributed to this type of art. During the entire month of July La Biblioteca will host an exhibition of film posters as a link to the GIFF (Guanajuato International Film Festival), which this year will have Poland as a guest country. The posters will be on sale at very accessible prices; all are original and some are very rare.
