What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSanMigueldeAllende, where x = an independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSanMigueldeAllende event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. The entire day is organized into three 75-minute sessions separated by generous breaks. Thematically, each of these three sessions is organized into discrete topics that are subsets of the overarching theme of the event, De:Spacio. Talks will be in both English and Spanish and a simultaneous translation service will be available.
The overarching theme of TEDxSanMigueldeAllende in 2014 is “De:Spacio” and focuses critical concern on the effects that accelerating technologies are having upon our lives. We accept these technologies into our lives with abandon, but what tolls are they exacting upon us? We are communicating but are we connecting? We are consuming but are we satisfied? De:Spacio posits that we must foster a new sense of our “presence” in our lives — both “in time” ie slowing down and being ‘present’ in the moment — but also “in space” ie realizing the potential of our locality and nurturing connectedness to where we are. Without cultivating this capacity to be “present” we will lose ourselves in the whirlwind of our own technological advancements.
Now in our fifth year, we are proud to have established one of the most enduring and well respected TEDx conferences in the world – including the first and most watched TEDx talks not in the English language. This one will be our best yet – so come join us and participate in this important dialogue!.
