Our June pets of the month
By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero
Two SPA blondes want to devote their lives to being your protector and companion— Susie and Precious. Susie arrived at the SPA alone, in 2011, just in time to deliver nine puppies that night. Judging by the scars on her sweet face, she had a rough time before finding us. A smart, strong and loving dog, she really deserves a home where she can finally be the best friend to a human, that’s all she wants. Susie is not good with other adult dogs, but she is the dog-mama to our young dogs when they are in the exercise area. Precious was living on the streets, she cared for by a volunteer until we came in last May. She has adapted to being in the SPA, but we know that she is most happy when not confined. She is a darling, dog—patient, funny, affectionate, and perceptive. Both girls are escape artists (Susie can climb fences) so a secure, walled home is best for them. It takes a while for both of these discerning girls to warm up to strangers, but once they do, it’s magic.
Licorice and Linus, brothers, just over three months old, arrived at the SPA as newborn kittens with their mom. They were whisked off by one of our generous foster families to be given the extra love and attention they needed. Several weeks later, nicely nourished and healthy, they returned to us. Much to our surprise, these two who started out about the same size had morphed into a decidedly big brother and little brother, with Licorice almost double the weight of his tiny brother. Since then, little Linus has packed on extra grams, but still is a miniature version of Licorice. Neither of the brothers cares about their size difference however. They play together, groom each other, and believe they are twins. Both are very fuzzy black kittens, but Linus has recently decided to add lots of gray hairs to his fur, perhaps in the belief that if he can’t be the bigger brother at least he can look the more mature of the two.
