GravityKids, the circus children of San Miguel

By Robin Loving Rowland

When I was a kid, the big deal was waiting all year for the circus to come to town, and the people in it were all adults. Here in San Miguel, the circus is alive all year ‘round for local youth, and they are the participants, not the observers. The troupe is called GravityKids, and they are the circus children of San Miguel.

Come hear how GravityKids was born and how it is instilling our youngsters with coordination, strength, balance, discipline, flexibility, grace and self-confidence  on Tuesday, June 3, when Ceci Corona will speak at the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende – Midday at Hotel Mision al Molino, Salida a Queretaro 1, at 12:30pm.

Corona will explain how the kids use dance, floor gymnastics, trampolines, juggling, makeup, trapezes, and hoops to have fun, learn teamwork, and entertain.

Corona is educated in classical ballet, folkloric dance, flamenco and jazz. She has performed with the Academia del Ballet Guadalajara, Ballet de Cámara de Jalisco, and Victoria Ballet, as well as with the American Festival Ballet in the United States. She was part of the Company of Bellas Artes in Guadalajara.

Corona has been an aerial dance performer with the circus troupe GravityWorks since 2004, having participated in more than 100 shows in Mexico and Toronto, Canada. In 2008 Ceci founded and opened GravityWorks School of the New Circus Arts, where she is director and instructor. With her students, Corona formed the performing group of children called GravityKids.
