1, 2, 3… Karaoke!

By Jade Arroyo

Not only Japanese people love to sing karaoke—sanmiguelenses kind of like it, too. And by “sanmiguelenses” I’m not talking about only the ones who were born here, but about all who feel they sanmiguelenses: So, these people also like to sing. On a regular basis, amateur singers (who perform with the confidence of great divas) gather at the local restaurant/bar La Chopería to have an evening of amusement. This weekly musical event is run by writer and singer Anne Nicolai and musician Aarón Romo. Every Tuesday is karaoke night at La Chopería (Canal 21). There’s no cover, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a shower singer or if you’ve never done it before. Go for it and try a little singing with friends. Anne and Aarón have a group called the SMA Karaoke Club (if you have sung with them before, you’re already part of the club). For further information or to get more involved, you can visit their blog karaokeanie.com and upload photos, videos and comments.
