Second edition of Windows of Opportunity

San Miguel Angels for Education will bring to the city the second edition of Windows of Opportunity, a charity golf tournament, on July 5.
Several years ago, Naomi Lawler had the idea of creating a nonprofit organization to help children in San Miguel de Allende, supported by her partner, Michael, who passed away eight years ago. One of his last wishes was to sell some of the family assets to finance the organization.
The assets were not sold quickly, so Naomi Lawler decided to organize a charity golf tournament, Ventanas de Oportunidad, in order to earn money not for the organization, but for quality education for the girls of Casa Hogar Santa Julia. According to Lawler, some of the partners of Ventanas wanted to get involved in charity associations, and when they found out that she was involved in Casa Santa Julia they offered her the golf course as venue for the event.
In 2013, the charity event collected more than 320,000 pesos, which went toward the school expenses of the Santa Julia girls.
Last year, Carla Souza, a Mexican actress who appeared in the successful film Nosotros los Nobles, was filming a movie in Morelos but wanted to attend the awards ceremony, so she drove eight hours in the rain to make it to San Miguel. Again this year there will be celebrities supporting the event.
The tournament will be held on July 5 at Ventanas, and currently everything is being prepared to collect an amount that can guarantee the girls’ education. The organization already has a Harley Davidson motorcycle that will be a prize for the winner as well as cash prizes. The event will also feature a silent auction. The awards ceremony will be open to the general public.
