Children’s Day celebration in the park
By Jade Arroyo
In Mexico, Children’s Day is observed on April 30. On this much-anticipated day girls and boys all over the country receive gifts and are given parties. This day is also a commemoration of the rights of children to education, health and well-being.
In San Miguel a party was held at Parque Juárez for the little ones on Sunday, April 26. Children and the young at heart congregated to enjoy a family fun day with activities such as face painting, hot air balloons, mechanical games, storytelling, arts and crafts workshops, soccer, a rally, dance contests and much more. A raffle was also held; the prizes were 20 bicycles and 70 games.
The event was an initiative of the municipal DIF and was presided over by the president of that institution, Karla Ramírez, and her husband, Mayor Mauricio Trejo.
The theme of water conservation was reinforced in the play El Profesor Chiflado, and participation in sports was encouraged through a Tae-Kwan-Do exhibition.
