Peace Education: Seven Billion Reasons for Peace

By Robin Loving Rowland

Recently, Rotary’s international ambassador for peace visited our tiny town because it has several exemplary peace programs that could be models for the world. One of them, the Prem Rawat Foundation’s peace education program, is an interactive series of non-sectarian workshops that helps individuals discover their inner resources for personal peace. Hear key volunteer Jean-Paul Peretz shares how he and others are improving local lives through this program on Tuesday, May 6, at 12:30pm at the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende-Midday at Hotel Misión al Molino, Salida a Querétaro 1.

This innovated, customized program—facilitated by volunteers including Oscar Arcos, a well-known physical therapist—includes 10 videos that focus on inner strength, choice, and hope, so people can live with dignity, peace and prosperity. It has been taught at colleges, universities and communities as well as in hospice, prison and parolee programs. Retirement centers, nursing homes, veterans and youth also have benefited from it. In San Miguel, courses have been taught at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic, the Municipal Police Force and the local prison.

Peretz, who calls himself a serial entrepreneur, has a background in design, business and education. His professions have included teacher-photographer, cabinetmaker and father. He believes that peace is a fundamental human need. He will present the same program in Spanish May 7 at the Sindicato, Recreo 4, at 7:30pm.
