Music to support San Miguel children
By Jade Arroyo
Last month San Miguel was filled with religious festivities and with music. One of the two vibrant music festivals in town was the Magic Town Music Festival, which featured talented local and international musicians such as Maylee Thomas, Red Young and Silvie Rider-Young, Oh Whitney, Mingo Fishtrap, Stephanie Urbina Jones, ZuZu Men, Vudu Chile and Johnny Favourite, who performed at a couple of venues in town including VC & Friends and Sunset Bar. Beyond musical entertainment the festival was a fundraiser to support Casa de Los Angeles, a local self-sustainable non-profit that provides a safe environment for small children from San Miguel. The day care facility also provides health care, education, nutrition and support and counselling for single mothers. The director of the festival, Carrie Cameron, said that the most important thing was “having the chance to help the kids.” To welcome performing artists and assistants and kick off the festival, a party was held at Jim and Wesley’s lovely house in Centro, where people socialized, laughed and enjoyed a good party with live music and dancing. The festival was a great success, and we await next’s year festival.
