By Jade Arroyo
For a casual evening amusement with tasty drinks and munchies (not actually dinner) after work hours, we present a little guide of fun casual drink and eats places in town. Have a great weekend!
La Azotea, Umaran 6
This bar is a little more “dressed up” being sleek and contemporary; it’s also one of the most popular in town. The tapas menu has a lot of options that goes from a belly-filling pizza to a light salad. The bar is complete, with cocktails, wine list and different liquors.
La Sirena Gorda, Barranca 78
This place has been open since 1920, when originally was an actual cantina named El Manantial. In the past years was remodeleted and turn into the bar that is now The Fat Mermaid (what a sexy name, right), where you can see several art expression hanging on the wall of the salty water nymph. To eat there are great fish and seafood tacos and tostadas.
This bar carries a festive New Orleans style, and it’s one of the liviest spots in town, featuring the most popular happy hour in town from 5-8pm. Plus specials on some days of the day: Mondays are mojitos day, Tuesday margaritas, Wednesday martinis an Thursdays hurricanes. To munch and keep your energy high, try some of the succulent Creole specialties o if you’re craving for a happy dose of tasty cholesterol, a first class hamburger or fries. A good place to come with friends and have a good laughter time.
La Veintiúnica, Jesús and Cuadrante
This place has a fun and colloquial traditional Mexican style, like a cantina from the old days, but with all the perks of a refined bar, like a great variety of liquors like tequila and mescal (try the fruit mezcalitas, they’re fresh and delicious). And –of course- mariachi and regional Mexican music sound at the background, making the tipsy one to sing along from the gut the powerful José Alfredo Jiménez songs. To eat there are tasty choices like tacos or burgers.
