Il Trovatore opens the door to a new project: The San Miguel de Allende Opera Choir
By Xavier Gibler
After the recent success of G. Verdi’s Il Trovatore at Teatro Angela Peralta, Maestro Mauro Ledesma – renowned local musician who was the choir director for this production – has decided to establish the first San Miguel de Allende Opera Choir, Coro de la Ópera de San Miguel de Allende.
Just a few months ago, assigned to participate in Il Trovatore, he started a choir with a small group of local singers, both professional and amateur all of them avid lovers of opera. The result was a pleasant and unexpected surprise! In the words of acclaimed opera critic and producer, Maestro Manuel Yrízar: “Though small, the choir, in accordance with what was presented, solidly accomplishes its goal in this well-presented performance.”
The momentum of this excellent accomplishment puts in place an even more ambitious project for this small group. It is looking into formally becoming a professional Opera Choir, with the purpose of putting together different presentations and becoming an integral part of diverse productions. In order to achieve this, Maestro Ledesma is calling upon all those lovers of music and bel canto – whether professionals or not – who wish to join this new group. The added bonus will be the opportunity to participate in professional formation and master classes with world-renowned musicians to increase the musical and vocal level of all members.
If you have already been part of a choir or if you are a lover of classical music and opera, we invite you join our group. Your level of musical proficiency is not important, as long as you have a good ear and the willingness to learn and grow musically.
If you wish to become a member of the San Miguel de Allende Opera Choir, please contact Maestro Mauro Ledesma. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm, at Sabino 25, Colonia San Antonio. Phone: 121-1533; cell: (415) 111-5861; email@example.com.
