If you’ve always wanted to stay at the world-famous Winchester Mystery House, now’s your chance. The haunted and storied Victorian mansion recently received approval from the City of San Jose, California to accommodate overnight guests in one of the surrounding buildings. The only question now is, are the ghosts at the mansion ready to party?
The Winchester Mystery House encompasses 24,000 square feet and includes 10,000 window panes, 2,000 doors, 160 rooms, 52 skylights, 47 fireplaces, 40 bedrooms, 40 staircases, 13 bathrooms, six kitchens, three elevators, two basements and one shower. Mrs. Winchester spent US$5.5 million on the mansion, and the building was worked on 24/7 for 38 years.
No more North Pole voyages for tourists
Is the North Pole on your bucket list? If so, better act fast. The Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker named 50 Years of Victory will stop operating passenger voyages to the North Polar in 2015 and instead focus on clearing the way for cargo ships and scientific expeditions.
Poseidon Expeditions, a company that operates cruises to Polar regions, has opened sales on the last North Pole voyage by 50 Years of Victory in summer 2015. The 128-passenger ship will operate its final passenger voyage July 30-August 12, 2015.
Quark is taking bookings on a June 19-July 2, 2014, departure priced from US$24,995.
They have also opened sales on a 15-day cruise departing June 3, 2015, and 14-day cruises departing June 14 and June 26, 2015.
Poseidon also is selling space on the Victory’s three 14-day North Pole voyages this year, which depart July 14, July 25 and August 5, 2014. Per-person rates start at US$24,995 for the 2014 season and US$25,995 for the final 2015 season.
The 50 Years of Victory is the largest nuclear-powered icebreaker in the world, capable of driving through Arctic ice nearly 10 feet thick. Despite being a working vessel, the ship has a dining room, salon for lectures and socializing, a bow-facing bar and lounge, library, gym, two saunas and swimming pool with heated seawater and it carries a physician.
Aeromexico increases flights between Mexico and Asia
Aeromexico announces that starting in July it will be operating seven weekly flights to and from Asia, promoting Mexico’s bilateral relations with Japan and China.
Starting in April, Aeromexico will add its fourth weekly flight to and from Tokyo, while in July it will add its third weekly flight to and from Shanghai, consolidating its position as the only Latin American airline to unite these cities with the capital of Mexico.
For more than seven years, Aeromexico has been the only Latin American airline to fly to Asia. The increase in these new schedules will make it possible to meet the travel demand of the Asian market, and provide some 3,500 seats on a weekly basis for the benefit of all its customers.
