It’s happened once again at the famous hacienda!

The SPA’s “Treasures of San Miguel” fundraiser was a rousing success. The magical Hacienda Purisima de Jalpa was the site of the festivities.
The hacienda has always welcomed guests. In 1810, Ignacio Pérez spent his first night on his ride to warn Ignacio Allende and Miguel Hidalgo of the approaching Spanish army. The revolution is said to have been delayed one day because there was a fiesta at Purisima de Jalpa! And now it’s happened again some 200 years later…as the scheduled close of the SPA fiesta neared, shuttle vans were lined up out front and departure delayed as guests had to be pulled away from the festivities.
Who could blame them for not wanting to leave this destination location? All were impressed by the beauty and history of this magnificent and magical hacienda complete with casino, outdoor theatre, porticos and patios, 500-year-old yuccas, organic greenhouses, walking paths and tranquil lake.
While Mary Sullivan on the Steinway serenaded guests, they wandered the grounds and enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The carefully planned and well-orchestrated day’s agenda then consisted of a gourmet luncheon in the casino.
World-class chef Enrique Farjeat from Mexico City uses only organic produce grown on the property. Chef Farjeat has 17 years of cooking experience, having received his first gastronomic training at the Ritz Escoffier in Paris. He later became the director of food and beverage at St. Regis Hotel in Mexico City. The assisted-buffet menu consisted of organic and culinary delights that were enjoyed by all.
The luncheon was followed by innovative and entertaining skits performed by The Improv People in the hacienda’s outdoor amphitheater, and the day’s events were pulled together with dessert, auction and raffle drawings.
And yet with all of this, the real highlights of the day were honoring the SPA’s own Dea Randall for 17 years of dedicated service as well as visits by some of SPA’s many adorable, and adoptable, puppies and kittens!
Heartfelt thanks to all of SPA’s supporters and volunteers, program advertisers, silent auction and raffle donors, Lou Christine (VIP Club), Dr. David Fialkoff from Eventos Online, as well as Janet, Susan and Chef Enrique from Hacienda Purísima, for making this a world-class event that may not have delayed a revolution, but certainly made it difficult for guests to drag themselves away from the go-to-event of the year!
