Smile, you’re an angel!
By Jade Arroyo
Casa de Los Angeles is a local self-sustainable non-profit that provides a safe and educational environment for small children from San Miguel, a comprehensive day care for little angels that combines health care, education, nutrition and support and counselling for single mothers.
It has become a tradition during high season to throw a monthly benefit reception for friends, volunteers and sponsors of this great project. This event is known by almost everyone is town by the happy name “Music, munchies and margaritas,” a mid-afternoon reception with live music by local talented performers and spiced up with food, margaritas and fun. At the most recent event Aaron Romo sang and played guitar. These receptions are held at the beautiful Casa de la Cuesta, which houses the mask museum The Other Face of Mexico, which features over 500 ceremonial masks from all over the country, the collection of Heidi and Bill Lavausser, who have been collecting them for 30 years. This museum can be visited by appointment, and the income from entrance fees goes to the Casa de Los Angeles fund.
