By Janice Page
The next Lions Club trip is our fabulous annual trek to Uruapan for the artisans fair on Palm Sunday weekend April 11-13. We leave at 8am after a continental breakfast. The first stop is Morelia, where we will have time for sightseeing and comida. Next we will go to Tzintzuntzan, where there are five pre-Hispanic temples and the ex-convento de San Francisco, as well as local straw artesanías. We will then proceed to Uruapan.Lions Club Trip to Uruapan, Michoacán 2,100 pesos double/3,050 single April 11-13 Jean Schickel 152 0934, firstname.lastname@example.org Janice Page 152-5541 email@example.com
We will spend two nights in the Plaza Hotel Uruapan, a four-star hotel. There will be a BYOB cocktail party each night with nibbles supplied by the Lions club. In Uruapan we will visit the Parque Nacional Eduardo Ruiz, which has many beautiful paths, waterfalls and river views. There is also a trout farm and a restaurant where we can order fresh trout. The artisans fair will take place during our visit, and there will be a parade on Saturday featuring the artisans and displaying of their crafts.
The trip home will include a stop at Santa Clara del Cobre, the coppersmith capital of Michoacan. We will stop in Pátzcuaro for comida before heading to the reed factory, where furniture and other items are made in animal shapes. We will return to San Miguel around 8 or 9pm.
The cost of the trip is 2,100 pesos based on double occupancy (about US$165); 3,050 pesos based on single (about US$240). Prices are based on at least 33 participants. The price of the trip includes a first class bus, hotel, all tips and taxes, breakfasts, cocktail party nibbles and a donation to the Lions Club (or St. Paul’s Church for all from the church who go on the trip.) The club dispenses glasses to the needy and does free diabetes testing. St. Paul’s Church has many outreach programs, including a pre-school for low-income families. Payment is due March 31 and will be collected at Actinver Bank on San Francisco between 10am and noon.
