Come and enjoy a musical tour of Mexico

By Liliana Gutiérrez

This is a unique opportunity to discover beautiful Mexican folkloric and traditional music featuring original arrangements for choir and ensemble by Xavier Hernández, and original choreography by Monserrat Ramírez.

A Musical Tour of Mexico
Thu, Mar 27, 7pm
Teatro Ángela Peralta

The program will combine classical and folkloric elements of both disciplines. This delightful evening will feature beautiful music and songs from different regions of Mexico, including Cascabel, a “jarocho son” from Veracruz, Ti Feu, a traditional song from Oaxaca, Jarabe Tapatío from Jalisco, adapted for solo piano, along with well known songs like Júrame, Si nos dejan, Cielo rojo and Granada. In addition, you will hear an original composition by Xavier Hernández for the San Miguel Vivo Children’s Choir entitled Amo el canto del Zenzontle (I Love the Mockingbird’s Singing), which is based on a poem by Nezahualcoyotl.

This program was awarded a grant in 2011 by the Institute of Culture and CONACULTA. Xavier Hernandez is the Musical Director of Ensemble San Miguel, which is composed of Liliana Gutiérrez piano, Enrique Prado cello/piano, Francisco Mata clarinet, Andres Perales percussions, Angeles Gutiérrez soprano and Xavier Hernández tenor/flute and guitar. For this performance the ensemble will be accompanied by San Miguel Vivo Children’s Choir and Adults Choir directed by Liliana Gutierrez and Xavier Hernández. Tickets are only 100 pesos, children and teens free, and are available at the Angela Peralta box office. Come and enrich your appreciation of the incredibly varied musical traditions of Mexico.
