Here is my one simple rule for skincare… don’t put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth and eat. Our skin is the largest organ of our body, but many treat it like a coating or Formica finish and rub it with all kinds of chemicals.

During my 13 years as Chief Pollinator at Burt’s Bees, I traveled extensively teaching people all over the world about natural skin care and earth-friendly skin care. It is important to realize that the personal care industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet when you consider how many chemicals you wash down the drain each day with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, facial cleansers, hair color, bubble bath, and the list goes on. So it’s important to take care of both your skin and Mother Earth at the same time. It’s easy if you know what to use and how to use it. For example, organic apple cider vinegar is one of the best skin toners you can use.

I now know what feeling dry as a bone feels like! The dry seasons here can be brutal. And then when you add the effects of hard water and hard sun, it’s a major challenge to everyone’s skin and hair. I have discovered many natural solutions to soothe and nourish aging dry skin like wonderful carrot seed oil, a major healer for skin aged by sun exposure. It is totally possible to keep your skin, your hair, lips, hands, and feet moisturized, soft and protected during this intense dry season as well as in every kind of weather. Your just have to understand the basics of proper skincare and the advantages of using natural products compared to the challenges that chemicals present to your skin.

The great thing about skin is that it really loves you, the person it protects, and does its best to constantly heal and rejuvenate itself. All it asks is for you to give it some healthy food instead of nasty chemicals. Your skin just wants a healthy diet.
