Welcome spring with a new family pet at your side
By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero
Ace and Joly are lively dogs who would be wonderful Spring additions to your home. Ace, a medium-sized male Shepherd mix, arrived at the SPA in September 2012 as a one-week-old puppy, along with his mother and six siblings. They had been living in an empty lot behind Mega, and were rescued thanks to the combined efforts of Save a Mexican Mutt (SAMM) and the SPA. Ace, a very loving dog, is protective of the people he cares about. He is energetic, loves to play and go on walks. Incredibly smart, he has even figured out how to turn the knob on the inside of his cage to let himself out! This dog is very trainable and wants to be your guardian!SPA’s Treasures of San Miguel Fundraiser March 23, 1–5 pm at La Hacienda Purisima de Jalpa Treasure Hunt-Delicious Food-Silent Auction-Raffle Entertainment by The Improv People Tickets (1,000 pesos/US$85) now available Purchase at La Conexion (Aldama 3, Café Monet) & the SPA Email SPAJalpa@gmail.com for more info
Joly is a medium-large female, abandoned on the street and rescued by a woman who recognized her sweet nature. Joly loves attention and playtime, walks nicely on leash, and gets along well with other dogs. Always excited to see volunteers, she leaps for joy when it’s her turn for a walk. Joly would be a great pet for a family with older kids or for active adults who enjoy walking, running and playing with dogs. She’ll return your love a thousand fold!
Our welcome-to-spring cats are Jet and Pumpkin, both males about eight months old. Pumpkin arrived last fall, and with his festive personality and autumn color-schemed coat, it seemed fitting to give him an upbeat, holiday name. He is a cheerful boy who loves to play and is just as eager to snuggle. With his orange and white coat and sparkling eyes, he’s a cutie.
Jet has a coat of fur as sleek as a seal, and as ebony as a grand piano, or, more fittingly for his age, a baby grand. Within minutes of his arrival, he settled in with all his roommates, not a care in the world. A social little guy, he’s obviously never met a cat he doesn’t like. He plays so hard, he tires himself out, then sprawls casually across the floor, blocking the doorway, yet confident that we will not step on him. If you want a stress-free kitten, Jet’s the one for you.
