“Friends are the greatest treasure in life,” she says. “With friends anything seems possible. Without them, life is quite different. People are everywhere but only a friend is there for you.” The talk draws on observations from a film, newspaper articles, sayings, and personal experience.

For 24 years, Helen Rivas-Rose has divided her time between Kennebunk, Maine, and San Miguel de Allende. In both places she cultivates family, friendships, and social activities, while always finding time to pursue her passion to write. She is on the Worship Committee and in the choir at the Kennebunk Unitarian Universalist Church and is a member of the Maine Poets Society and the Innovative Retirement Collaborative. Helen is the author of Brave, A Memoir of Overcoming Shyness (, a memoir in prose and verse that will be published this summer.

The UU Fellowship meets every Sunday at 10:30am at La Posada de la Aldea, Ancha de San Antonio 15 and welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The room is wheelchair accessible. For more information, visit our website at
