Chamber Music Festival announces 2014 season

By Lorena Campillo

After the announcement of a one-year hiatus for the International Chamber Music Festival, San Miguel’s music lovers responded with an outpouring of support. As a result of this assistance and concern, Board President Dirk Bakker is very pleased to announce that the venerated Festival will continue uninterrupted into its 36th season in 2014.

This August the Festival will present an impressive lineup of some of the world’s finest chamber music ensembles. After last year’s extraordinary 35th anniversary season, the Festival will once again be the leading chamber music Festival in all of Latin America.

Ginny Green has volunteered to be the Festival’s Executive Director, leading a team of board members, new volunteers, and seasoned Festival supporters. She brings to the Festival more than thirty years of arts management experience in Toronto as well as a profound commitment to the arts in San Miguel. Dr. Alejandro Escuer will continue to serve as the Festival’s Music Director.

The Chamber Music Festival will open Thursday, July 31 with a performance by the Borromeo String Quartet, also performing on Friday, August 1. They are one of the most celebrated and exciting string quartets of our time.

The weekend of August 9 and 10 will feature the return of Canada’s esteemed chamber ensemble, the Gryphon Trio, an overwhelmingly popular hit last season. They are internationally renowned for their refined and dynamic performances.

The Calder Quartet will be featured on August 15 and 16. They are preceded by their reputation as one of America’s greatest chamber music ensembles, celebrated for their incisive and thrilling interpretations.

The Festival concludes on August 22 and 23 with performances by the astonishing Clarement Trio, praised by Strad magazine as “one of America’s finest young chamber groups.”

Revitalized with fresh enthusiasm, seasoned and new board members and volunteers, the 2014 Chamber Music Festival will continue its tradition of being an impressive highlight of the musical year in San Miguel.
