Love is in the air!
By Megan Gabel
Valentine’s Day was made for the SPA dogs! There are so many “lovers” from which to choose, it was difficult to decide which ones should be featured in this article.
High on the list are Lady and Tramp. Both a little over three years old, they came to the SPA together, street lovers who were a couple when they arrived in November, 2012. Both blond and medium-sized, Lady is shorthaired and Tramp is shaggy. Lady is clearly in charge of Tramp. She firmly takes Tramp’s leash and leads him in the direction she wants him to go, tugging him if he strays (which he does). It is quite amusing to watch. They playfully chase one another; never tiring of each other’s company.
Gretel and Scooby, the best of friends, kiss each other’s wet faces after they are done taking a dip in the drinking water vat. Gretel, a one-year-old, longhaired, medium-sized beauty, is smart, affectionate, and a real sweetheart. She has found a great buddy in Scooby, a medium-sized brindle a little over a year old. They zoom all around the dog exercise area, chasing each other from one end to the other. When they are ready to take a break, they come over for some affection from their human buddies.
Sisters Gina and Lola clearly are each other’s fan. Six months old, they are still babies and growing. They, too, love to give each other exercise. Sometimes, each one stops – stares at the other – frozen. Daring. Waiting. And then, off they go after each other, chasing, running, playing. They are delightful to watch.
Let’s not forget mother-daughter love like the kind that exists between our Frida and Cristal, wonderful sweethearts. Mom Frida, nine years young, and daughter, Cristal, three years old, are medium-large joys. They clearly love each other and love the people around them. They are gentle, affectionate, easy to walk on a leash, and generally quite calm. However, they like to play and Frida is the one that usually entices Cristal to engage. They are very close to each other and we really hope they will be adopted together.
Meet these and all our terrific pets at the SPA, Los Pinos 7, 152-6124, Monday-Saturday, 11am-2pm. Adoptions are 350 pesos (cats and dogs) and include sterilization, vaccinations, and deworming. Find other beauties on our website (www.spasanmiguel.org) and in our Facebook albums (www.facebook.com/spasanmiguel) (peruse photos, stories, and videos). Happy Valentine’s Day!
