Lift every voice

In recognition of Black History Month, Sandy Brooks presents a program titled “Lift Every Voice” that offers inspirational readings by African-American Writers, including Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen at this week’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Service.

She will also feature literature from the civil rights movement and discuss the power of language we use both today and long ago as we reach for transformation to grow our souls. Members of the congregation will share in the readings. Sandy Brooks has been a winter resident for 20 years in San Miguel. Her introduction to Unitarian Universalism came from a service she attended here. In New York City she is a lay leader at Community Church of New York, where she has served on the nomination committee, the search committee and co-facilitated the poetry circle.

The UU Fellowship meets every Sunday at 10:30am at La Posada de la Aldea, Ancha de San Antonio 15, and welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The room is wheelchair accessible. For more information, visit our website at
