During a meeting with Mayor Mauricio Trejo in San Miguel, the Secretary of Public Security for the state, Álvar Cabeza de Vaca Appendini, announced he will hold meetings with members of the foreign community.
On January 22, the secretary of security met with Mayor Trejo as part of the state strategy for crime prevention and to improve coordination with the local government. The secretary said that he would hold a meeting with the expat community in San Miguel to hear and respond to their concerns, as his department does with residents of the state’s capital, Guanajuato. He did not specify the dates for the meetings.
Cabeza de Vaca made it clear that meetings will also be held with entrepreneurs, associations of professionals and with members of nongovernmental organizations. “By instruction of Governor Márquez and by the agreements that we have with Mayor Trejo, we will be listening to people’s concerns and we will improve actions in the matter of security,” said Cabeza de Vaca. Mayor Trejo held a meeting with members of different sectors of society and talked with them about the achievements of his administration in 2013. For 2014, he said, San Miguel’s Institute for Youth will work in coordination with Patronato ProJuventud Sanmiguelense to prepare monthly programs for different groups of teenagers in San Miguel, such as break dancers, skaters, taggers and musicians, among others.
He also mentioned that 70 percent of the budget for tourism promotion will be directed toward international travelers and 30 percent toward travelers within Mexico.
